Judy the Mathematician
I think I always have been a mathematician at heart. I always loved to spot patterns, to figure out the logic behind things, and I never stopped asking why. And even though I took a few detours, I eventually started studying math, originally planning on majoring in physics and astrophysics, but eventually majoring in mathematics and applied mathematics. I received my B.Sc. and my B.Sc.Hons from the University of Cape Town, and eventually
always had an unquenshable thirst for knowledge, for finding out why things work the way they do, because of my way of thinking, my way of viewing the world, and my way of dissecting arguments. However, I have also lead a life that allows me to formally call myself a mathematician: I’ve received a B.Sc. and B.Sc. Hons. in Pure and Applied Mathematics from the University of Cape Town, I’ve then earned a Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics (with a strong focus on pure math) from the same university. Thereafter, I have held several Postdoc positions in both Germany and Austria doing pure mathematics. In the course of my career, I have published various peer-reviewed papers on topics in algebra (in particular on the representation theory of certain Lie groups). These papers can collectively be found under my old married name (Judith Alcock-Zeilinger)
"Why should i care?"
This is an excellent question! After all, I am a presentation coach, so what does it matter whether I have got research experience in math? Here is why:
As a mathematician, I not only am trained to focus on truthfulness and logical consistency of an argument, I am also uniquely qualified to
